Write for us
We welcome thoughtful pitches and contributions about the connections among places, resources, trade, movement, culture and the environment. A strong proposal makes one useful idea clear, gives it a defined scope and explains why a general reader would want to follow its thread.
What suits the publication
We look for evergreen explainers, careful comparisons, accounts of how a practice or route developed, and essays that illuminate a connection across places. A contribution should have a distinct central question, concrete examples and enough context to avoid easy generalisations. We are not looking for professional advice, unsupported sweeping claims or promotional copy.
What to include in a pitch
Send a concise summary of the proposed piece, its main point, the examples you expect to use and any specialist terms that will need explaining. Tell us what makes the subject fit Modern World Dispatch and whether the piece depends on material readers may not be able to check. Do not send confidential information or assume that a pitch is accepted until we have discussed it.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a short description of your approach and the kind of contribution you have in mind. We review ideas for fit and clarity; sending a proposal does not guarantee publication.
The world is made of connections.
We follow the threads between places, looking closely at the routes, materials and choices that shape life across borders.
